Iranian and Israeli media outlets are reporting that a ceasefire between the two nations has commenced. However, CNN notes that confusion persists regarding the precise details and timing of the agreement.

In his initial announcement, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire would begin approximately six hours after his first social media post about the breakthrough, which was published around 12:00 PM ET.

Shortly after 12:00 PM ET, Israeli and Iranian media outlets started running headlines announcing the start of the truce.

Iran`s state-run Press TV reported, “The ceasefire began after four waves of Iranian attacks on Israeli-occupied territories.”

The semi-official Tasnim news agency posted on its Telegram channel that the ceasefire had entered the “compliance stage.”

Israeli news channels Channel 12 and Ynet also published headlines stating that the ceasefire had taken effect.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian state media claimed that the ceasefire was “imposed on the enemy,” but did not specify an exact time.

The Israeli government has not yet provided any official comment, according to CNN.

If the ceasefire between Israel and Iran does take hold, it could last “for at least some time,” according to a CNN military analyst.

The analyst explains his perspective by suggesting that Israel believes it has already achieved its objectives, while Iran needs time to pause and regroup.

Retired Air Force Colonel Cedric Leighton stated that Israel has accomplished many of its goals, including striking Iranian nuclear facilities and destroying its air defense system.

Meanwhile, Iran is looking for an opportunity to “regroup and figure out what they`re going to do next,” Leighton remarked.

“So in that sense, it`s very possible that the agreement will last, at least for a while,” Leighton believes.

However, amidst optimistic expectations of a ceasefire, Israel issued six warnings about separate Iranian rocket launches overnight into Tuesday morning local time, just hours before the fragile truce was set to begin.

Air raid sirens repeatedly sounded across Israel as Iran launched several rockets towards the country, resulting in at least four fatalities in the southern city of Beersheba, CNN reported.

Throughout the night and into the morning, residents across Israel were repeatedly instructed to seek shelter as Israeli air defense systems detected incoming rockets. Shortly after some residents left their bunkers, sirens wailed again, urging them to return.

The rocket barrages began even after US President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, CNN noted.
