During a joint press conference with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, issuing a demand that Russia cease interfering in Armenia`s domestic affairs.

Mirzoyan explicitly stated that Russian officials, parliamentarians, and experts must treat Armenia`s sovereignty with utmost respect and should refrain from any further interference in the republic`s internal matters.

“And Mr. Lavrov should not interfere in Armenia`s internal politics,” Mirzoyan added firmly.

He further asserted that any claims regarding attacks on the church in Armenia are untrue, clarifying that there is no conflict or struggle between the authorities and the church within the country.

Previously, following the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, Sergey Lavrov had remarked to journalists that while events in Armenia are considered an internal matter for its neighbors, “attacks on the canonical thousand-year-old Armenian Apostolic Church cause serious concern.”

Lavrov had also expressed Russia`s hope that the church would not “be subjected to unwarranted attacks without any serious basis.”

In addition, Lavrov highlighted to reporters that the Armenian Foreign Minister had once again chosen not to attend the CSTO Foreign Ministers` Council meeting.
