Azerbaijani Ministry of Health: Deceased Men in Ekaterinburg Had Bruises
The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan has released the results of the forensic medical examination of the bodies of two citizens of the republic who died in the Russian city of Ekaterinburg. This was reported by Adalat Hasanov, Director General of the ministry`s forensic medical examination department, according to the APA agency.
According to information provided by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health, physical injuries were found on the bodies of the deceased, including a broken nose and bruises on the face and body.
Hasanov specified that the cause of death for one of them, Huseyn Safarov, was post-traumatic and post-hemorrhagic shock.
The incident, which triggered a diplomatic scandal between Russia and Azerbaijan, occurred after the detention of two Azerbaijani citizens in Ekaterinburg on June 29. Investigative bodies suggested that the detainees might be involved in a series of murders committed in Ekaterinburg in the 2000s. The two main suspects, brothers Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov, died shortly after being taken into custody.
The Russian investigation, however, stated that the cause of their death was heart failure.
In response to the events, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan canceled all planned cultural events involving Russian state and private entities. Furthermore, the day before, Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies took steps to cease the activities of the Russian news agency Sputnik in Baku.
