The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan summoned Russia`s Chargé d`affaires, Pyotr Volokhov, to deliver a note of protest. This action follows a special operation conducted in Yekaterinburg which resulted in the deaths of two Azerbaijani citizens.

During the operation on June 27, law enforcement officers searched over 10 apartments inhabited by natives of Azerbaijan, detaining approximately 50 individuals. According to media reports, the deceased individuals, brothers Ziyeddin and Huseyn Safarov, were key suspects in the 2001 murder of businessman Yunis Pashayev.

Azerbaijan has demanded that Russia conduct an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the operation and hold those responsible for the deaths of its citizens accountable.

Russian law enforcement agencies stated that they are conducting an investigation into a case from `past years`.
