According to Politico, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded firmly to US President Donald Trump`s comments regarding Russia`s exclusion from the Group of Eight (G8).
According to the article`s authors, Carney initially did not contradict Trump, who claimed that Russia`s expulsion from the G8 was due to personal disagreements with other world leaders and was insulting to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, the report notes that after the US leader left the summit early, the Canadian Prime Minister spoke more directly at his concluding press conference. Carney emphasized that Russia`s annexation of Crimea in 2014 was a `personal insult` to the citizens of Ukraine and the peninsula`s residents, and this was the reason for Moscow`s exclusion from the G8 group.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the G7 summit in Canada without securing the desired support. Trump`s early departure from the event drew more attention than Zelenskyy`s presence.
