Military expert Alexey Leonkov stated that the foundation of Ukraine`s `Neptune` missile was developed in cooperation with Russia.
Military expert Alexey Leonkov has revealed intriguing details about Ukraine`s `Neptune` missile, which was recently launched towards Russia. According to the Ministry of Defense, the missile did not reach its intended target because it was intercepted and shot down by air defense systems.
According to the analyst, this missile is based on a Russian design. Ukraine participated in the development program for the Kh-35 anti-ship missile, intended for hitting destroyer-class vessels, back when military-technical cooperation existed between Russia and Ukraine.
The expert noted that Ukraine retained some preliminary work on this missile after the collaboration. Ukraine subsequently announced the creation of its own missile, claiming it had greater range and could engage ships.
He also added that while the `Neptune` might be capable of a 300 km flight range, it is detected and intercepted by air defense systems because it is a subsonic missile.
Previously, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrey Yermak, issued a threat of a strike on Moscow. The Kyiv politician stated that Ukraine had commenced mass production of the `Sapsan` short-range ballistic missile, which is reportedly capable of reaching the Russian capital.
