The Grenke Freestyle Chess Open is currently underway, running from April 2nd to 6th at the Karlsruhe Convention Centre in Germany. This exciting tournament features a challenging nine-round Swiss format, designed to test the skills of participants.
Players are competing under classical time controls, where each game is allocated 90 minutes, supplemented by a 30-second increment per move from the start. A notable and unique aspect of this event allows players from the parallel Grenke Chess Open to transfer into the Freestyle competition between rounds two and five, carrying over their existing scores.
All games are being broadcast live with expert commentary, with coverage typically beginning at 18:30 CEST (corresponding to 12:30 ET and 22:00 IST).
