Japan replies to Trump, who compared strikes on Iran to the bombings of Hiroshima
Japan`s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshimasa Hayashi, commented on remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who compared the recent strikes on Iran`s nuclear facilities to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, according to Jiji Press.
From the perspective of the Japanese official, experts should ideally address such topics, but Tokyo took note of the White House leader`s statement. Hayashi reiterated the country`s official stance that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused “unimaginable human suffering resulting in a regrettable humanitarian situation.” He urged the international community to work more actively towards achieving a world without nuclear weapons and preventing a recurrence of the 1945 tragedy.
The previous day, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities were comparable to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which “ended” World War II. According to the American leader, Iran`s nuclear program has been set back “decades.” The White House head also warned of potential new strikes if Tehran continues enriching uranium. Iran admitted that the nuclear sites were severely damaged, but Western media outlets doubt the strikes were as successful as claimed by the United States.
