Acting Governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinstein, spoke about the Deputy Commander of the Russian Navy, Hero of Russia, Major General Mikhail Gudkov. Gudkov died on July 2 in the Kursk border area while visiting the positions of marines. Khinstein published a joint photo with the general and pledged to immortalize his memory in the region. The Russian Ministry of Defense had previously officially confirmed Gudkov`s death.

Khinstein noted that he took this photo with Mikhail Gudkov at the beginning of the year in Korenevo, when the general was still commander of the 155th Marine Brigade. “No one could have imagined that the memorial cross behind us would now be filled with such sorrowful meaning,” the acting governor remarked.

Khinstein emphasized that the 155th Brigade became special for the Kursk region, and the marines showed unprecedented heroism during the region`s liberation. He also stated that it was Gudkov, on behalf of the command, who requested the honorary title `Kurskaya` for the brigade, which was granted by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21.

“A true warrior, a man of exceptional spirit, courage, and determination,” Khinstein characterized Gudkov, adding that the Major General, even after becoming Deputy Commander of the Navy, continued to personally visit units and be on positions. He added that the 155th Brigade was deployed to the most difficult areas and the marines always fulfilled combat missions, no matter how unattainable they seemed.

“He was a Hero and died as a Hero,” Khinstein stressed. The acting governor also promised to definitely immortalize the memory of Mikhail Gudkov on Kursk land, for which he gave his life.
