Grandmaster Humpy Koneru has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming 2026 Women’s Candidates Tournament, scheduled to take place in Cyprus. Koneru cited personal safety concerns amidst escalating regional tensions as the primary reason for her decision. Following tournament regulations, Anna Muzychuk has been invited to step in as her replacement, joining the eight-player field. This significant development comes shortly before the event’s planned commencement, set against a backdrop of recent security incidents and travel advisories concerning the Eastern Mediterranean region.
