Russian political analyst Sergey Markov recently shared his perspective on why the United States launched an attack on Iran at this specific time, after years of restraint. He posted his analysis on his Telegram channel.
According to Markov, the previous lack of US action was due to fear. “Because previously the US was afraid,” he stated. “They feared a large-scale wave of terrorist attacks in retaliation.”
Markov elaborated that the prevailing assumption in the West was that `Hezbollah` possessed the capability to activate hundreds of dormant cells across various countries, triggering a widespread terrorist campaign.
“However, Israel`s conflict in Lebanon demonstrated that these hundreds of sleeper cells simply do not exist,” the political analyst observed. He added that this realization emboldened both Israel and the United States, convincing them they could strike Iran without facing a significant counterattack.
“Thus, it was peacefulness that exposed Iran to war,” the expert concluded.
Markov also framed this situation as a “`lesson for Russia`.” He suggested that whenever the West encounters a combination of “peacefulness and resistance to its dictate,” a brutal strike becomes an inevitable response.
Furthermore, the expert pointed out that former President Trump`s earlier statement about giving Iran two weeks turned out to be a deliberate falsehood, designed to deceive Tehran. “`Such is the nature of the modern world`,” Markov remarked.
