German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that the G7 countries do not plan to address the topic of frozen Russian assets at the upcoming summit set to take place in Canada. This was reported by Welt.

Merz noted that the issue of frozen assets was discussed at the previous G7 summit, but the topic will not be pursued further at the current meeting.

According to the Chancellor, the leaders of the G7 countries intend to review the situation surrounding the conflict in Ukraine and explore the possibility of implementing new sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Furthermore, he called upon US President Donald Trump to express his support for the imposed sanctions.

Earlier, upon arriving at the G7 summit, Trump stated that the decision to exclude Russia from the “Group of Eight” was a misstep.
