Moscow and the surrounding region are currently under the grip of a significant heatwave, with daytime temperatures predicted to remain near record highs throughout the rest of the week. Conditions are expected to be particularly challenging until the weekend.
Forecasters indicate that maximum temperatures could reach a scorching +33 to +35 degrees Celsius (approximately 91 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit) up until Saturday. Within the city center, the urban heat island effect may exacerbate conditions, making the weather particularly taxing.
For residents looking for ways to cope with the intense heat, local reservoirs and other water bodies are highlighted as the most effective solution. Swimming is becoming increasingly comfortable, and conditions are expected to be favorable for bathing in Moscow and regional waters starting from Friday.
Relief, however, is finally on the horizon. The current heatwave is expected to begin its retreat on Sunday, likely coinciding with the arrival of thunderstorms. Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures are forecast to drop noticeably, with maximum readings not anticipated to exceed a more manageable +30°C. While nighttime temperatures may not cool significantly, the peak daytime intensity will subside.
In light of the sustained period of high temperatures, the Hydrometeorological Center has extended its orange weather hazard level for the capital region. This official warning is currently set to remain in effect until July 14th, emphasizing the need for caution during this period of extreme heat.
