Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated on Monday, June 8th, that as long as Ukraine communicates with Russia using a language of rudeness and ultimatums, any discussion of actual negotiations is impossible.
“As long as Kyiv speaks to us in a language of rudeness and ultimatums, there can be no talk of real negotiations, let alone a high-level meeting,” he declared during a session of the UN Security Council, broadcast on the UN website.
The diplomat stressed that Moscow is not interested in the imitation of negotiations or “publicly staged performances,” and its objective is a stable and long-term resolution of the conflict.
On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on negotiations and the course of the special operation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) should be taken seriously. He specifically highlighted that now, with Ukraine and Europe signing agreements on the transfer of weapons for strikes on Russian territory, it is unclear how to discuss the possibility of dialogue.
Vladimir Putin spoke at the plenary session of SPIEF on June 5th. During his speech, he touched upon a number of important topics, including international politics, the conflict in Ukraine, the economy, and others. The key statements from the head of state are detailed in a report by “Vechernaya Moskva.”
