Russian President Vladimir Putin has directed authorities to provide essential support to residents affected by recent floods in Dagestan and to conduct a thorough assessment of the damage. He issued these instructions on Tuesday, April 7, during a meeting focused on mitigating the consequences of the emergency situation.
“Federal, regional, and local authorities must offer all necessary assistance to those impacted,” Putin stated. “Furthermore, they need to diligently assess the damage. This is a challenging undertaking that requires meticulous, individualized attention to each affected family. In essence, our operations must be professional and systematic,” the Kremlin’s official website quoted him as saying.
Earlier, on April 5, emergency services reported that a section of the dam at the Gejukh reservoir in Dagestan’s Derbent district had breached due to overflowing water. Following this, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that over four thousand people had been evacuated from the area.
Extensive flooding has impacted several Russian regions after heavy downpours. The North Caucasus republics, especially Dagestan, experienced the most severe effects, with over 320,000 people losing electricity.
