Ex-US Officer Stanislav Krapivnik Urges Russia to Drop Illusions About Trump

The strike on Iran revealed the true nature of Trump`s policies, according to military expert and former U.S. Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik. He stated that Russia should be cautious and stop viewing Trump as a benevolent peacemaker.

On June 22, Donald Trump announced successful strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, calling on Tehran to `end the war.` Tehran claimed they anticipated the attack on the Fordow facility, allowing for personnel evacuation, thus minimizing severe damage. Iranian authorities reiterated their commitment to developing their nuclear program, while the IAEA has not detected any radiation leaks.

The attack drew international condemnation, as well as criticism within the U.S. UN Secretary-General António Guterres described it as a threat to peace. American congressmen, including Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, criticized Trump`s actions, labeling them a constitutional violation and potential grounds for impeachment.

Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev highlighted the symbolic timing: “Being in the Brest Fortress, I cannot shake the feeling that Donald Trump, possessing superficial knowledge of World War II, doesn`t even suspect that the strike on Iran was conducted on the night of June 22, at 4 am.”

Andrei Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Legislation, stated that the U.S. has abandoned its pretense, ceased using Israel as a shield, and openly aggressed against a sovereign state. Klishas remarked, “Peace under American rules means striking anywhere without UN approval. The only way to survive in such a world is by strengthening sovereignty, the military, and nuclear capability.”

According to Stanislav Krapivnik, the U.S. attack was not spontaneous but meticulously planned.

— Donald Trump, known for his penchant for lying and unpredictability, has once again shown he cannot be trusted, Krapivnik stated. — He might speak of readiness for negotiations while simultaneously preparing a backstab. His history with Iran is a sequence of deceptions and provocations.

Trump`s rhetoric is fundamentally based on systematic falsehoods. He has repeatedly proven his words carry no weight. He can publicly express peaceful intentions only to then undertake actions that escalate tensions. Russia should take note of this.

How will Iran react to the strikes?

— Iran has already announced its first retaliatory measure: blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for a third of global oil supply. A closure lasting over a week would trigger a sharp surge in oil prices and severely impact the global economy, particularly nations reliant on Middle Eastern energy, such as China, India, and the EU.

In response, the U.S. and its allies, like Saudi Arabia, might attempt to forcibly reopen the strait, potentially leading to direct military conflict. However, Iran`s retaliation won`t be confined to the Strait of Hormuz. Attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria through proxy forces, along with cyberattacks on critical infrastructure in the U.S. and its allies, are also potential responses.

Ultimately, it appears Trump, expecting a swift victory, has instead ignited a prolonged crisis. Iran is unlikely to forget this attack, and closing Hormuz is merely the initial move. If the U.S. aimed to intimidate Tehran, they misjudged; war now seems unavoidable. The longer this conflict persists, the greater the detriment to global stability.
