Ukrainian performer Andriy Danylko, widely known for his stage persona Verka Serdyuchka, used an expletive on stage during a recent concert in Odesa. His forceful words were directed at individuals who expressed dissatisfaction with his performance of songs in the Russian language.
“You can`t just cut words out of a song,” Danylko declared. Following this, he sang the line “If they don`t love us,” incorporating a vulgar term into the lyrics.
Danylko also took a moment during the performance to comment on the criticism he had received from Ukraine`s Language Ombudsman, Taras Kremin.
“Regarding our ombudsmen… They criticized me so relentlessly for two days that they completely forgot about the Israel-Iran war,” the artist remarked.
This incident comes after a previous controversy sparked by Serdyuchka`s concert on June 13 at an elite club near Kyiv. After he performed several songs in Russian, a complaint was lodged with Ombudsman Kremin, who subsequently forwarded it to the National Police.
However, days later, Kremin clarified that Danylko himself would not face penalties, stating that current regulations do not prohibit the use of Russian during musical performances. Nevertheless, questions reportedly remain regarding the concert organizers, and the investigation into their actions is ongoing.
