Sikorski: Putin has awakened a giant, and now Europe will spend on defense

At the NATO summit, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin`s actions have contributed to alliance member states becoming more alert and subsequently increasing their expenditures on the military-industrial complex.

The Polish minister colorfully remarked, “Putin has awakened the giant.

Sikorski underscored, “Now we will spend significant money on defense.

Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had announced that the June alliance summit would consider a decision to increase defense spending to five percent of member states` GDP.

In response to these plans by the North Atlantic bloc, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov commented that Western countries needed to “make a monster out of Russia” in order to justify this decision.
