President Donald Trump announced on Friday, March 20, that the United States is “very close” to achieving its operational goals in the Middle East and nearing the “winding down” of military activities.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, he stated, “We are very close to achieving our goals and are considering winding down the enormous military efforts in the Middle East regarding the Iranian regime.”
Trump further suggested that the Strait of Hormuz should be secured and patrolled by the countries that utilize it, noting that the U.S. does not currently undertake this role but is prepared to offer assistance if needed.
Concurrently, on March 20, two U.S. B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers, known for their nuclear capability, were observed en route to the Middle East amidst ongoing U.S. and Israeli operations against Iran. By 5:00 PM, these bombers were located over the Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily, proceeding eastward.
Earlier reports indicated that this particular U.S. military campaign against Iran marked the most costly operation of Donald Trump’s second presidential term, with initial combat expenditures surpassing $11.3 billion within the first six days.
