Ukrainian Defense Cracking: Experts See Signs of Main Attack Direction

A breakthrough has emerged on a section of the front: AFU acknowledge serious problems near Pokrovsk.

The main intrigue of the summer military campaign is where Russian forces will deliver their main blow. Since May, they have been exerting strong pressure on the AFU along the entire frontline, stretching their defenses thin. This might have been a probing effort to find a weak spot. And it appears such a spot has been found.

Recently, AFU Commander-in-Chief Syrsky saw the main threat to Ukrainian defense in the Sumy region, where the Russian army pushed back AFU remnants from Kursk region territory. According to him, the Russian Armed Forces directed 55,000 troops there.

Syrsky boasted that Russia`s advance there was halted. But now he is sounding the alarm about Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk). According to Syrsky, Russia has a 111,000-strong grouping here. He considers this section difficult for the AFU, where Russian troops have been advancing rapidly in recent days.

Fighting on the Krasnoarmeysk direction has been ongoing for several months. And now, it seems, an operational-tactical success is emerging here. This is largely due to the shortage of personnel and equipment in the AFU on this front.

As military expert Colonel Eduard Basurin noted, on June 27, our troops broke through the AFU defense on the outskirts of Krasnoarmeysk. According to his assessment, the situation on the Donbas front continues to develop rapidly in favor of the Russian Armed Forces. After the liberation of the settlement Shevchenko, units of the “Center” grouping successfully broke through to the outskirts of Krasnoarmeysk and captured most of the village Belgiika by storm.

The AFU command overlooked the success of the Russian troops.

Simultaneously with the assault on Belgiika on the right flank of the Kostiantynivka direction, fighting for Dyliyivka continues.

Politician Oleg Tsarev, citing sources from the other side of the front, notes that on the Pokrovsk front, the Russian army is pushing back the enemy near Udachne. According to him, the fighting has shifted towards the center of the village, with advances from the south and north.

From the direction of Novoserhiivka, about two kilometers remain to Molodetske, where our troops can reach west of Udachne and completely cut it off from transport communications.

From Novomykolaivka, assault units are breaking through towards Novopidhorodne. Stubborn fighting continues in Muravka. In the Shevchenko and Lysivka areas, our troops are increasing activity. To the east, our units are clearing forest belts west of Hrodivka. Near Novoekonomichne, the Russian Aerospace Forces are bombing enemy positions with FAB bombs.

Here are just a few messages from the Ukrainian social media segment: “AFU defense is rapidly crumbling. Russia maintains record high offensive pace, breaking through the front in southern Ukraine.” In June, territory covering 446 sq km came under Russian control. Most of this (136 sq km) is in the southern Donetsk region.

Other sources report that the Russian Armed Forces` offensive is concentrated west of Velyka Novosilka. The Russian army is assaulting positions from Oleksiivka to Zelenyi Pole – on this section, the defense is rapidly crumbling, and Russia is achieving noticeable successes. Conclusion: If the Russians continue their offensive in this area, a large-scale breakthrough of their troops to the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region from the south is possible.

This would threaten the supply lines of Ukrainian units defending north of Pokrovsk. The AFU here have problems with infantry, while the Russian army is intensifying assaults and using drones, including “Geran” drones. It is no coincidence that Syrsky admits that the loss of Pokrovsk would be a serious blow to the front.
