German director Uwe Boll has declared that a full-fledged film based on the upcoming game GTA 6 could be a cinematic masterpiece, but only if he is at the helm. He shared this sentiment in a conversation with “Izvestia” on Wednesday, June 1st.
“It’s unlikely I’ll be able to acquire the rights to a franchise of GTA’s caliber. However, in spirit, it’s incredibly close to my film ‘Postal’… I’m confident a GTA-based film would turn out magnificent if I were the director,” Boll stated.
He explained that Hollywood studios are currently actively acquiring rights to major gaming projects, but box office success doesn’t guarantee artistic merit. Boll was a pioneer in video game adaptations in the 2000s, directing adaptations of “House of the Dead,” “Alone in the Dark,” and “Far Cry,” for which he faced a wave of criticism. Nevertheless, he emphasized that his new film “Citizen Vengeance” has already proven the viability of independent cinema, according to the report.
