Venezuela Depicted as 51st U.S. State in Trump’s Post

On Tuesday, May 12th, former U.S. President Donald Trump posted an image on the social media platform Truth Social that labeled Venezuela as the 51st state of the U.S.

The shared graphic displays the territory of Venezuela colored in the patterns of the American flag.

The accompanying caption reads, “51st state.”

It is worth noting that on March 7th, Trump officially recognized the current government of Venezuela. He stated that the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, was “doing a great job” and continuing to cooperate with the United States.

In February, during an informal reception, Donald Trump humorously discussed the potential expansion of U.S. territory. He suggested that Canada could become the 51st state, Greenland the 52nd, and Venezuela the 53rd. Sardonically commenting on his past idea of purchasing Greenland, he added that he might get distracted to personally oversee an invasion, but then quickly retracted the remark.
