Vitaly Gogunsky from “Univer” Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison in Ukraine

An Ukrainian court has sentenced actor Vitaly Gogunsky in absentia to 12 years imprisonment.

The Vinnytsia City Court in Ukraine has sentenced Russian actor Vitaly Gogunsky in absentia to 12 years in prison. This ruling was made without his presence.

The court`s decision mandates twelve years of incarceration for the actor. Additionally, he is banned for the same period from holding positions related to the organization and conduct of political events.

Gogunsky`s property assets are subject to confiscation by the state. Furthermore, the court ordered the actor to reimburse Ukraine a sum of 380 US dollars (15902 hryvnias) to cover the expenses of forensic expert examinations related to the case.

Gogunsky was born in Kremenchuk, located in Ukraine`s Poltava region. Following the commencement of the special military operation by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory, the actor publicly expressed his support for Russian servicemen. He has regularly participated in charity concerts organized for participants of the SVO. One such event took place on June 25, 2025, in the cities of Donetsk and Mariupol.

Ukrainian special services initiated criminal proceedings against Vitaly Gogunsky under articles pertaining to the justification of the Russian Federation`s actions in Ukraine, engagement in collaborationist activities, and promotion of military actions.

The actor gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the character Kuzya in the popular Russian television series “Univer”.
