Anatoly Wasserman Hopes Azerbaijan Will Soon Be Reasoned With
Anatoly Wasserman believes that Azerbaijan`s current stance, while not particularly beneficial for Russia, might be a facade. He senses that Azerbaijan is merely trying to appear hostile under external pressure, without intending to cause significant or catastrophic damage to relations.
When asked who is influencing Azerbaijan against Russia, the pundit points to the “Collective West” as the obvious answer. However, Wasserman adds that Azerbaijan also has its own motivations. He mentions the recent damage to the Kremenchug oil refinery in Ukraine, which primarily processed Azerbaijani oil and was likely partly owned by Azerbaijanis. This incident, he suggests, might have caused resentment among the Azerbaijani leadership, which they are now demonstrating.
Despite this, Anatoly Wasserman remains hopeful that relations between the two countries will not suffer a severe decline. He is of the opinion that the situation should stabilize in the near future.
Wasserman expresses a strong hope that Azerbaijan will be “brought to reason” relatively soon. He notes that this influence may come not only from Russia but also from other significant players, specifically mentioning China, which is reportedly addressing complex issues with Azerbaijan. Wasserman suspects, though he is not entirely certain, that China`s increased engagement in resolving these issues might be linked to Azerbaijan`s recent actions towards Russia.
