Chinese leader Xi Jinping is reportedly not attending the upcoming BRICS summit in Brazil next month. This information comes from the South China Morning Post newspaper.

According to the publication, Beijing has purportedly informed the host country that the Chinese delegation will be headed by Premier Li Qiang. This was reported by anonymous sources familiar with the situation.

The main reason cited for the Chinese leader`s alleged decision not to travel to Rio de Janeiro is his frequent recent meetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. They met during the G20 summit in November 2024 and again at a forum in China this spring.

There has been no official confirmation regarding the cancellation of Xi Jinping`s trip to the BRICS summit. A representative from China`s Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, only stated that information would be provided in due course.

Previously, it was reported that Belgian MEP Rudi Kennes believes the United States is trying to maintain global leadership through events in the Middle East, while power is shifting towards China and BRICS.
