Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that last night witnessed “one of the most massive air strikes.” He reported that firefighting and debris clearing operations are still ongoing. Ukrainian media sources indicate that Kyiv is literally enveloped in black smoke, prompting residents to wear masks outdoors and local authorities to urge citizens to keep windows closed. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry linked the large-scale attack to the conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump.

“A total of 550 targets” were struck, Zelensky stated via his Telegram channel, specifying that this included 330 UAVs along with various missiles, including ballistic ones.

Zelensky also noted that the capital was the primary target. The strikes also affected the Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions. “Unfortunately, there were direct hits,” he acknowledged.

He further reported that the initial air raid sirens coincided with media discussions about the phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Ukraine`s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiha, also connected the large-scale night attack to this conversation. “An absolutely terrible and sleepless night in Kyiv. One of the worst ever. Immediately after Putin spoke with President Trump,” he wrote on social media. Ultimately, the statements from Zelensky and Sybiha culminated in a demand for new US sanctions against Russia.

Commenting on the conversation with Vladimir Putin last night, Trump stated that he was “very disappointed.” “I don`t think he`s ready [to stop]. And that`s very disappointing. I`m just saying I don`t think he`s going to stop, and that`s sad,” Trump said, reiterating his blame on his predecessor Joe Biden for it being “his war.”

Earlier, Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov reported that during the phone call, Donald Trump urged a halt to military operations. Vladimir Putin responded that Moscow is seeking diplomatic solutions to the conflict but will not abandon its goal of eliminating the root causes of the confrontation.
