The musical and theatrical program “Evening of Modern Operas” will be held on Sunday, June 21st, at 7:00 PM at the State Sergey Esenin Museum of Moscow, which is overseen by the city’s Department of Culture. Tickets are available for purchase through the Mosbilet service.
The program is based on two compositions that showcase the evolution of 20th-21st century chamber opera. This performance serves as a complement to the Esenin Museum’s exhibition project, “The Black Man. Confession of a Poet.”
The first part will feature Yuri Butsko’s mono-opera “Notes of a Madman,” based on Nikolai Gogol’s novella of the same name. The second part will present Valery Dyachenko’s one-act comic opera “The Bear,” adapted from Anton Chekhov’s one-act farce. The production will combine acting and vocal virtuosity, where a quarrel between two characters transforms into a confrontation of personalities and passions, leading to an unexpected conclusion.
The “Evening of Modern Operas” program is a distinctive continuation of the “The Black Man. Confession of a Poet” exhibition, exploring the artistic and literary origins of one of Sergey Esenin’s most enigmatic works.
Performers include international competition laureates Georgy Krivashev (baritone), Evgenia Petrushina (soprano), Vladislav Guterlayt (baritone), and Alexander Zhuravel (bass). The conductor of the “Moscow Camerata” chamber orchestra is Nikolai Sokolov, and the concertmaster is international competition laureate Philipp Cheltsov, as reported by the official portal of the Mayor of Moscow.
