People’s Artist of Russia, Sergey Bezrukov, has spoken out about the state of the Gorky Moscow Art Theatre following his appointment as its artistic director. He revealed that the theater currently lacks a main stage, a situation he attributes to constant renovation work.
“The vast theater building has been in a state of perpetual repair for a long time; this is well-known to everyone, but still, I didn’t expect that the main thing – the stage – would be missing. That is, the theater essentially has no large stage. It’s just a shell without any engineering equipment, without a fire safety system,” Bezrukov emphasized.
The artist added that he will do everything in his power to ensure the Moscow Art Theatre troupe can perform on its stage by the next theatrical season. He noted that there is nothing worse than “creative downtime,” as reported by Starhit.
Previously, Sergey Bezrukov mentioned that after his appointment as artistic director of the Moscow Art Theatre, he does not rule out cooperation and even friendship with the Moscow Provincial Theatre.
On March 7th, the artist announced his decision to suspend his teaching activities and not to recruit a new acting course at VGIK this year. He explained that he now requires significantly more energy to immerse himself in the work with the new creative team.
