On Saturday, May 30th, the State Corporation Roscosmos presented a photograph of the Dumbbell Nebula, which holds the distinction of being the first planetary nebula ever discovered by humanity.
The Dumbbell Nebula is a gas cloud ejected by a dying star. It was first observed by the French astronomer Charles Messier way back in 1764. The light from this nebula travels approximately 1,360 light-years to reach Earth. Its distinctive shape bears a resemblance to a dumbbell or a “cosmic apple.”
“The imaging was conducted using a TAL-200K telescope. The total exposure time was 10 hours,” reported the official Telegram channel of Roscosmos.
