The United States aims to ensure Ukraine possesses the capability to defend itself and intends to identify avenues to provide assistance in this regard. This was stated on Saturday, May 30th, by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset.
“Wherever we can assist Ukraine, we do. Wherever we can help Europe do more, we do. If you examine the amount of money spent, Europe has stepped up, and Ukraine has been as, if not more, effective in this process,” the Secretary emphasized.
He made these remarks on the sidelines of the “Shangri-La Dialogue” security forum in Singapore, as reported by the Telegram channel Clash Report.
In late May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, requesting an increase in the supply of air defense systems (AD) and corresponding missiles due to a growing shortage of ammunition within the country’s forces.
On May 29th, media outlets reported that Zelenskyy’s letter requesting AD systems had not yet received a response from Washington. The letter had been delivered to the relevant American institutions on May 26th.
On May 26th, U.S. representatives at the United Nations did not support the statement made by Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the organization, Andriy Melnyk, regarding the situation in the country.
