Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated his willingness to engage in direct talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a means to conclude the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv. Zelensky made this announcement on Wednesday, June 3rd.
“I am ready for direct negotiations with Putin to end this war,” Zelensky was quoted as saying by Life.ru.
He indicated that he is prepared to initiate consultations without waiting for the United States to resolve conflicts it deems more critical before turning its attention back to the confrontation between Moscow and Kyiv.
The previous day, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called for an immediate cessation of hostilities with Russia. He emphasized that Kyiv must “seize the current opportunity” to end the conflict, noting that this would necessitate “tremendous efforts.”
On June 1st, the head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the head of state has instructed to complete military operations before the onset of next winter. He also mentioned that certain preconditions for this are already in place.
Poroshenko himself had previously stated that Ukraine had never been closer to peace than in May 2026.
