Vincent Keymer has clinched the title at the grenke Freestyle Chess Open in Karlsruhe, securing his spot in the 2027 Freestyle Chess World Championship. His overall victory came after a swift draw against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the ninth and final round. Both Keymer and Vachier-Lagrave concluded the tournament tied for first place with 7½ points each, but Keymer emerged as the champion due to his superior tiebreak score. A strong contingent of seven players finished just half a point behind, accumulating 7/9. This group notably included chess legend Magnus Carlsen, who ultimately secured third place on tiebreaks.
