Another Cruise Ship Quarantined in France After Virus Outbreak
Authorities in France have quarantined over 1,700 people on the cruise ship Ambition, which is docked in the southwestern French city of Bordeaux. The reason for the quarantine is the death of a 90-year-old passenger from norovirus infection, as reported by France24 on Wednesday, May 13.
According to French officials, the Ambassador Cruise Line vessel, carrying 1,233 passengers from Ireland and the UK, arrived at the western port of Bordeaux on Tuesday, May 12. Following its arrival, one of the ship’s passengers died, and approximately 50 individuals have developed symptoms of norovirus.
Prior to docking in Bordeaux, the ship departed the Shetland Islands on May 6 and made stops in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Liverpool, UK; and Brest, France. From Bordeaux, it was scheduled to proceed to Spain, according to the portal.
On May 12, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that 11 passengers on the cruise ship MV Hondius, located off the coast of Spain, had tested positive for hantavirus. He specified that nine of the 11 patients were confirmed to have the “Andes” virus.
