Law enforcement agencies have initiated a criminal case concerning large-scale extortion against Sergei Shishkarev, the founder of the ‘Delo’ group of companies. Ukrainian national Evgeny Podgaetsky is now under investigation. This was reported on Thursday, May 28th, by two sources familiar with the case materials.
According to sources cited by RBC, a criminal case for large-scale extortion has been opened against Evgeny Podgaetsky, a citizen of Ukraine. Podgaetsky had previously filed a complaint against Sergei Shishkarev, the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ‘Delo’ group of companies, in the UAE.
The suspect has been charged in absentia. The Investigative Committee has filed a motion with the Tverskoy District Court to have Podgaetsky arrested. He faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
In a separate, earlier case, a Muscovite became a defendant in a criminal case after attempting to extort 20 million rubles from an individual. The victim agreed and transferred an advance payment of 1.9 million rubles, at which point the suspect was apprehended. The perpetrator was subsequently sentenced to seven years in prison.
