An “orange” hazard level has been declared in Moscow and its surrounding region on Monday, April 27th. According to the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, the region is expected to experience strong westerly winds and icy conditions.

“Snow/Icing. Warning period until 21:00 Moscow time on April 27th. Throughout April 27th, significant wet snow accumulation on wires and trees, heavy precipitation primarily in the form of wet snow, and icy roads are expected in some areas,” states the interactive map of the Hydrometeorological Center.

Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, reported that the snow cover in the capital had nearly reached five centimeters on April 27th. According to his data, 19 millimeters of precipitation fell in the city over the past 24 hours, accounting for over half – 51 percent – of the monthly norm for April.

The Moscow Department of Transport has urged drivers who have already switched to summer tires to use public transportation. Additionally, tram schedules are being adjusted in the city due to the adverse weather.

As a result of the severe weather, a tree fell onto the tracks on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line, leading to increased train intervals.
