American parliamentarians could visit Russia this autumn, as dialogue on this matter is proceeding through the foreign ministries of both countries. This was announced on Thursday, June 18, by the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.
“Dialogue is underway through the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is possible that our American colleagues will arrive in the fall. There is interest in this,” stated the speaker of the lower house of parliament.
He shared this information in a conversation with journalists, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Previously, on March 26, a meeting took place between deputies of the State Duma and representatives of the US Congress. The following day, Russian parliamentarians met with a delegation from the American government.
On March 28, State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev criticized his colleagues who agreed to a tour of the US Congress with bottles of Coca-Cola. The parliamentarian emphasized that none of the politicians who traveled to Washington declined the trip or the offered beverage.
On May 16, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Moscow and Washington continue to maintain intensive contacts at the administrative level, noting that interstate dialogue persists between the two countries through several channels.
