Araghchi: Iran and US did not sign agreement in Pakistan due to Washington's fault
The memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, was not signed due to the actions of the American side. This was announced on Monday, April 13th, by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
"When only a little was left before signing the memorandum, we encountered maximalism, constant changes in conditions, and rigidity from our American counterparts," he wrote on social media X.
According to him, Tehran conducted negotiations with Washington in good faith and sent "representatives of the highest level in the last 47 years" to Islamabad.
Resolution of the Middle East conflict cannot be achieved after just one diplomatic meeting, as Iran will not agree to the maximalist conditions put forward by the US. This opinion was expressed on April 12th by former US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis. He commented on the words of US Vice President JD Vance, who stated that the American side's offer at recent negotiations with Tehran was final and the best possible.
Earlier, it became known that negotiations between the US and Iran, mediated by the Pakistani side in Islamabad, concluded after 14 hours of discussions. It was reported that the parties, despite ongoing disagreements, would return to negotiations.
