Court Finds Pichugin Guilty in Case of Two Deaths in Sea of Okhotsk
A court in Ulan-Ude has found Mikhail Pichugin, who spent 67 days drifting on a catamaran in the Sea of Okhotsk, guilty in a case concerning the deaths of two individuals. The verdict was announced by the judge of the court on Tuesday, April 14th.
"Ultimately, Pichugin is sentenced to three years of correctional labor, with 10% of his salary to be withheld for the state," TASS quoted the judge as saying.
Previously, the prosecutor had requested a three-year prison sentence in a settlement colony for Pichugin, who was the sole survivor out of three people. The man had previously partially admitted guilt in the deaths of his brother and nephew, stating that the purpose of their trip was whale watching.
