Dagestan Floods: Over 540 Homes Cleared in 24 Hours by Emergency Services
Emergency services are actively continuing flood relief efforts in the Republic of Dagestan. According to the regional branch of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MCHS), as of Monday, March 30, water has receded from 544 residential buildings, 698 household plots, and 120 sections of roadways within the past 24 hours.
Despite significant progress, 235 residential homes, 550 household plots, and ten road sections still remain flooded. A total of 118 people, including 34 children, are currently housed in seven temporary accommodation centers.
Rescuers are relentlessly working to mitigate the aftermath of the natural disaster. Their ongoing tasks include analyzing the hydrological situation, pumping water from private yards and basements, and clearing debris and fallen trees. In areas where water has already withdrawn, specialized commissions are engaged in assessing the total damage. Overall, 673 personnel and 224 units of equipment are deployed in round-the-clock operations to eliminate the consequences of the flooding.
Regional Governor Sergey Melikov previously announced that the Dagestan government would consider implementing a regional state of emergency due to the extensive impact of the heavy rainfall. It's important to recall that on March 29, over 3,300 people, including approximately 1,000 children, were evacuated from the severely affected areas of Dagestan.
