Hungary Warns: Ukraine Attack on TurkStream is NATO Aggression
Hungary has issued a stern warning, stating that any potential attack by Ukraine on the TurkStream natural gas pipeline would be considered an act of aggression against a NATO member country, with significant repercussions for Kyiv. This declaration was made by Gergely Gulyás, Head of the Prime Minister's Office of Hungary, during a conference in Budapest.
Gulyás emphasized that if such an assault were to occur on Turkish territory, it would be unequivocally interpreted as an attack on a NATO ally. He voiced concerns regarding Ukraine's potential actions that could undermine the energy security of both Hungary and Slovakia.
Reports have previously indicated attempts to target facilities supporting the TurkStream and Blue Stream gas pipelines. These alleged attacks, which occurred between March 17 and 19, were reportedly thwarted by joint defensive efforts.
Last December, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó had also condemned previous Ukrainian actions against Russian pipelines and tankers in the Black Sea. Hungary relies heavily on the TurkStream pipeline and its branches, via Bulgaria and Serbia, for its primary gas supplies from Russia.
