Iran Awaits US Final Response on Strait of Hormuz Proposals via Mediators

Tehran, Sep 27 - Iran is awaiting a final response from mediators concerning the United States' stance on Iran's proposals for the Strait of Hormuz. This comes despite U.S. President Donald Trump publicly rejecting them, according to Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.

President Trump stated he had rejected Iran's proposition regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to this, Araghchi had reported that Tehran, through intermediaries, had presented Washington with a seven-day plan to open the strait.

"We saw the U.S. President's initial reaction, but nothing has been communicated to us through the mediators," Araghchi commented, with his statement published on his Telegram channel by Iranian media.

The Iranian minister added that the U.S. President makes many contradictory statements.

"We are waiting for the definitive view (on the proposals) from the mediators; we will make decisions based on that," the Iranian diplomat added.

He stated that any progress on opening the Strait of Hormuz depends on the U.S. fulfilling Iran's conditions for this.

In mid-June, the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum intended to initiate the process of a peace agreement. However, three weeks later, a new escalation began: Washington accused Tehran of shelling commercial vessels in Hormuz, after which the sides resumed retaliatory strikes. Currently, free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is not guaranteed.
