Moscow to Build Renovation Homes in Under Six Months Using Advanced Prefab Technology
Moscow plans to significantly reduce construction times for renovation homes, aiming for under half a year for some projects, according to Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning and Construction. The goal is to complete certain buildings within four to five months by leveraging large-module prefabrication technologies.
Efimov highlighted a successful pilot project on Garibaldi Street, where a house was built and delivered fully finished in six and a half months. He emphasized the realistic potential to further cut this duration to four or five months. This reduction will be achieved by increasing the level of factory pre-finishing for modules, thereby minimizing on-site construction work. Manufacturing conditions ensure higher speed and quality, as they allow for adherence to optimal temperature and humidity regimes, reducing on-site assembly to simply connecting pre-built modules.
The adoption of large-module construction also significantly reduces labor requirements, needing three to five times fewer workers compared to traditional monolithic building methods.
Overall, Moscow authorities aim to decrease the average construction period for renovation homes from the current 14–16 months to 12–14 months across various technologies.
To support this initiative, large-module housing production for renovation purposes has been deployed at a plant in Moscow, part of the "MonArch" group. The facility, projected to be fully operational in 2025, will have a design capacity of 450,000 square meters of housing per year and is expected to create over 2,500 jobs.
