NetBlocks: Iran Experiences Near-Total Internet Outage for Over Three Weeks
Iran has been experiencing a near-total internet blackout for over three weeks, according to the international monitoring service NetBlocks. The widespread disruptions, which have now lasted 21 days (480 hours), are affecting a significant portion of the country.
This extensive internet outage coincides with a military operation launched by the United States and Israel on February 28. Reports indicate that major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were targeted. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly carried out retaliatory attacks on U.S. facilities in various Middle Eastern countries.
Amidst the escalating tensions, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on March 18 once again extended its recommendations for airlines to avoid flights over high-risk zones in the Middle East. These cautionary measures, initially implemented on February 28 following the military operation, are now set to remain in effect until March 27, 2026, underscoring EASA's continued assessment of the region as a high-risk area for civil aviation.
