Russia Accuses Ukraine of POW Torture in New UN Reports

July 11, 2026Carlos Mendoza1 мин

Russia has submitted two reports to the United Nations, documenting cases of alleged torture of Russian prisoners of war by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that these materials contain irrefutable evidence of violations of the Third Geneva Convention.

He specified that the reports include testimonies and direct quotes from servicemen who have returned from Ukrainian captivity, confirming acts of torture. Miroshnik also emphasized that the reports particularly focus on the alleged system of secret prisons operating in Ukraine.

The diplomat characterized such practices as a severe breach of international humanitarian law, numerous human rights norms, and essentially a war crime, adding that many human rights organizations tend to overlook these facts.
