The Economist Names Kyiv Among Least Livable Cities
The prestigious British magazine, The Economist, has included Kyiv in its list of the ten least livable cities globally.
The Ukrainian capital secured the 166th position out of 173 surveyed cities. This places Kyiv even below Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, in the rankings. The bottom three cities are Damascus, Tripoli, and Dhaka. Last year, Kyiv was ranked 165th.
For the second consecutive year, Copenhagen has been recognized as the most livable city.
The Economist's index evaluates cities across five key categories: healthcare, culture and environment, education, infrastructure, and stability.
In the early hours of July 6th, Russian forces launched a significant strike targeting military-industrial complex facilities and fuel-energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region. Local media subsequently reported plumes of black smoke engulfing the city due to resulting fires.
Residents were advised to keep windows closed if possible and to avoid unnecessary outdoor excursions. The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, stated that the night-time strike by the Russian army was the most extensive since the active phase of hostilities began.
