Moscow Department of Transport Denies Red Light Camera Allegations

On Saturday, May 16th, the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development denied reports of cameras being installed to record pedestrians crossing on a red light.

The department explained that traffic lights equipped with video analytics are designed to analyze traffic and pedestrian flow, as well as monitor intersection performance.

“Information about the detection of violations by pedestrians, cyclists, or users of personal mobility devices is not true,” stated department representatives.

In late April, the Center for Traffic Organization launched a pilot project featuring illuminated markings on the asphalt near traffic lights at 10 locations. Half of these sites will test LED blocks embedded in the sidewalk, while the other half will utilize light projectors.
