Airport staff in Dubai discovered two live cubs of an endangered bear species in the luggage of a female passenger of Asian appearance. This was reported by the portal Paddle Your Own Kanoo (PYOK).
The animals were placed in a blue basket, and a veterinarian was immediately summoned to the airport. Upon arrival, the doctor confirmed the death of the bears, stating they could not withstand the prolonged exposure to low temperatures in the aircraft’s cargo hold.
The tourist claimed she was unaware of the animals being in her suitcase and clarified that she was paid to transport the luggage. The woman was arrested and charged with smuggling rare animals, according to the portal.
On February 10, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov reported that a Russian woman attempted to illegally export snakes listed in the Red Book from Indonesia, for which she could face up to five years in prison. The woman was detained on January 29 at Bali airport while trying to transport 20 wild animals to Russia without the necessary documents. These included one live Burmese python, 89 live ball pythons, 104 live iguanas, and eight dead iguanas, packed in 19 bags.
