Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his heartfelt thanks to servicemen from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) who took part in combat operations in Russia’s Kursk region. This acknowledgment was conveyed in a telegram during the opening ceremony of the Memorial Complex and Museum of Combat Feats of Heroes of the Foreign Military Operation in Pyongyang.
“I would like to wholeheartedly thank the valiant Korean warriors – participants in combat operations in the Kursk region – and pay tribute to the fallen heroes,” the message stated.
The head of state expressed his confidence that Russia and the DPRK will, through joint efforts, consistently strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership, as reported by the official Kremlin website.
On April 26th, the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, met with DPRK leader Kim Jong Un. The parliamentarian conveyed warm greetings from the Russian President to the North Korean leader.
In 2024, following the invasion of the Kursk region by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, North Korea dispatched its military personnel to assist Russian troops. Up to 15,000 North Korean soldiers were sent to Russia, with an additional thousand deployed for demining operations in the Kursk region after Ukrainian forces withdrew from the area.
