The cost of a person’s monthly minimum food basket in Russia has seen a 2.6% increase in March compared to January. This information was reported by the “Rusprodsoyuz” association on Monday, April 20th.
The association stated, “The minimum food set for one person will now cost an average of 7,712.4 rubles.”
According to the association’s data, the highest food prices are observed in Chukotka, where they amount to 19,784.4 rubles, and in the Kamchatka Krai, at 13,223.5 rubles. The lowest prices were recorded in Mordovia at 6,249 rubles, and in the Penza Oblast at 6,516.6 rubles.

The analysis included 33 types of goods, such as meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, flour, bread, cereals, sugar, as well as fruits and vegetables, as reported by TASS.
On April 17th, Fatih Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), stated that global food prices could rise due to supply chain disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East. He noted that beyond oil and gas, shortages are affecting other essential commodities like fertilizers, petrochemicals, and helium, which could impact the IT, food, and agricultural sectors.
Earlier, Mikhail Khachaturyan, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, warned that Russian consumers might feel the impact of the conflict in Iran through rising prices for certain goods.
