Moscow Celebrates 127 Years of Trams: Grand Parade Attracts Over 200,000 Visitors
Moscow recently celebrated the 127th anniversary of its tram system with a spectacular parade. Maxim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry, announced on Saturday, April 4th, that the festive event welcomed more than 200,000 residents and guests to the capital. Liksutov emphasized the city's ongoing commitment to enhancing the tram network, preserving its rich heritage, and incorporating cutting-edge technologies.
In a first for the city, a special procession of trams traveled from Kursky Railway Station to Sergiy Radonezhsky Street, drawing enthusiastic crowds of thousands along its entire route. Complementing the parade, an open-air exhibition showcased over 50 unique exhibits, including 16 trams representing various generations—from elegant pre-revolutionary models to rare specialized vehicles.
Visitors were also treated to an extensive entertainment program, which included live musical performances, interactive creative workshops, themed photo opportunities, and complimentary refreshments. Attendees had the unique chance to explore the interiors of historical tram cabins, marvel at vehicles from different eras, and capture memorable photographs. A similar retro transport parade has previously been held in Moscow, where 15 vintage trams were displayed and made accessible to the public on Chistoprudny Boulevard.
